A historic debut in the Velodrome of Heusden-Zolder!

From 12 to 16 February 2025, the brand new Sport Vlaanderen Heusden-Zolder Velodroom Limburg was the setting for the European Track Cycling Championships. It was the first major championship in the ultra-modern complex, which stands out for its unique combination of a 250-metre wooden track, underground sports hall and even a built-in hospital.

The European Track Cycling Championships brought together 326 athletes from 26 countries, competing in 22 disciplines. The introduction of equal distances for men and women led to spectacular performances, including world records by Hetty van de Wouw (time trial) and Anna Morris (pursuit). The Netherlands excelled with 16 medals, eight of which were gold. Harrie Lavreysen once again confirmed his sprint supremacy.

Belgium also had success. Jasper De Buyst and Jules Hesters won bronze, Hélène Hesters won silver. The stands were filled daily with an average of 1,500 enthusiastic spectators and 200 VIPs, which created a great atmosphere.

The organization led by Circuit Zolder received a lot of praise. The championship put Heusden-Zolder on the map as a new hotspot for international track cycling and promises a lot for the future of the sport in Belgium.
